Securing local improvements: Cllr. Ed Bridges (Gabalfa ward) and Cllr. Ann Rowland-James (Llandaff North ward) are pleased that the council is investing in making Gabalfa Interchange more attractive for users.

Over recent months, Liberal Democrat teams from Heath, Gabalfa, Llandaff North and Whitchurch wards have been calling for improvements to the underpass at the Gabalfa Interchange.

Local Lib Dem councillors, like many local residents, were concerned about the appearance of the underpass and, as a result, wrote to the council to ask for a full inspection of the underpass and the subways leading up to it. They also requested a scheme of improvements to be drawn up.

As a result of those Lib Dem requests requests, Cardiff Council has agreed to carry out a whole range of repairs and improvements, including:

  • Remove graffiti

  • Remove moss on ramps

  • Clear and clean drains

  • Repair broken lighting

  • Look into setting up CCTV

  • Replace cladding

  • Repaint parapets

  • Fit more robust handrails

  • Replace signs as necessary

Heath councillor, Jim James, told us: "This is clearly good news for the area. The Interchange has needed sprucing up for some time, and these repairs are very welcome."

Cllr. Ann Rowland-James of Llandaff North ward, added: "This is an important route for those walking or cycling into town, and these improvements show that the Lib Dem council is committed to providing safe routes for those who want to get to town without using a car."

Assembly spokesman and Gabalfa councillor, Ed Bridges, said: "Once again, it is Lib Dem action which has helped to improve our local area."

For further details on the scheme, contact any of your local councillors.
