Llandaff North Lib Dems say "No!" to Radyr Place development2.50.40pm GMT Thu 15th Feb 2007
The Llandaff North Liberal Democrat Focus Team has reacted angrily to plans to build 14 residential units on land by Radyr Place in Mynachdy, saying that the proposals are unfair on existing residents. Local Welsh Lib Dem councillor, Ann Rowland-James yesterday persuaded Cardiff Council's Planning Committee to attend a site visit so they can see for themselves the extent of local opposition to the scheme. Ann also submitted a petition against the proposals so the Planning Committee could see the extent of local opposition to the scheme. Ann told us: "Common sense has to prevail with this application - these plans are far too big for the area and will result in a loss of amenity for existing residents. I will do all I can to oppose the proposals." Cardiff North's Liberal Democrat Assembly candidate, Ed Bridges, added: "This is an important area of green open space, used by local children for recreation and used by local dog-walkers. To see yet more of our area getting taken up by monolithic developments is unfair to existing residents and takes away vital breathing space from Mynachdy." Residents have also expressed their anger after our Labour MP and AM failed to register any objection to the plans. While the Lib Dems wrote in to oppose the proposals and attended the meeting to call on the Planning Committee to refuse planning permission, Labour have so far remained silent on the issue. Local Lib Dem, David Coggins Cogan, said: "This is a real slap in the face for Mynachdy residents. Labour simply don't care about our area."
