Cllr. Ed Bridges and Gareth Holden want to know residents' views on plans for a seven-storey student block at Talybont Gate in Gabalfa ward.
The Gabalfa Focus Team has learned of a major planning application in the area.
Cardiff Universityare seeking permission to build a seven-storey block of student halls at Talybont Gate, near to the existing Talybont halls in Gabalfa. The block would accommodate 179 flats; no new parking spaces are proposed as part of the development.
It follows two controversial student halls plans in the area over recent months. Plans for a 23-bed block at Cross Place were withdrawn following concern from local residents. An application for 245 student flats on the old Mynachdy Coal Yard is still under consideration.
Local campaigner, Gareth Holden, said: "These applications show a general disregard for the views of local residents, who oppose more halls on their doorstep without adequate parking provision. This new proposal for seven storeys will dwarf all of the surrounding buildings and undoubtedly create more demand for the already limited street parking available. I would urge the university to engage with the community and then come back with a more realistic set of proposals."
Local Lib Dem councillor, Ed Bridges, said: "As always, we will represent residents over this issue and ensure their views are heard. Any resident with comments should write to the Chief Regulatory Services Officer, City Hall,Cardiff,CF10 3NDor e-mail developmentcontrol@cardiff.gov.uk, quoting application number 11/01414/DCI. If residents send me a copy of any correspondence, I'll be sure to reinforce their comments when I make my own submission."
