Cllr Fenella Bowden has been concerned about the number of complaints that she is receiving from residents who have incurred parking fines while visiting Heath Park and using the Barrack Square car park.
Fenella said ' I have written to Vinci and the Council to complain about the inadequacy of the signage in the car park. There is one sign at the entrance to the Barrack Square car park; and just one sign above the only parking meter.' She added ' It is written in large letters that parking is free to park users for 3 hours. What is not in large letters, and some way down the sign, is that visitors MUST take and display a ticket.'
Fenella has taken this up with Vinci and the Council already and is pressing the Council to deal with the problem so that more residents are not fooled by the signs. Fenella has appealed to Vinci on behalf of residents, but Vinci are not being understanding. Fenella said 'Residents will be aware that we are trying to tackle the UHW parking problem in the short stay car park by installing meters and erecting bollards to stop the parking on the grass verges. It was never the intention that residents should be penalised in this way'.
