Cllr Fenella Bowden has been horrified to hear news that a young teenager was run down on the zebra crossing alongside the Kingsmill factory in Maes y Coed Road on Sunday afternoon.
Fenella said 'Residents will know that I have been campaigning to have this zebra crossing improved since being elected in 2008 and have been pressing the Council to make it a higher priority. Only a few months ago one of our PCSOs was knocked down on the crossing, and sustained serious injuries, and I really hoped that this would have been enough to highlight the danger of this crossing. So it is devastating to hear that another resident has been injured. My heart goes out to the family'.
The crossing is situated at a point in Maes y Coed Road where there are cars moving from several directions, and motorists regularly fail to spot pedestrians using the crossing. The situation is worsened by the presence of a road sign which obscures one of the Belicia beacons to on-coming traffic. Fenella has been campaigning to have this sign removed and new halo style beacons installed as a bear minimum until the entire road can be properly reconfigured.
Fenella added ' I have been in touch with the Council first thing today to see what can be done to get this crossing improved before another person is injured, or killed. I shall continue campaigning for improvements until we get them in place'.
