Heath Park Lane continues to be blighted by cigarette litter
Cllr Fenella Bowden is continuing to press the Council to take stronger action against smokers leaving their cigarette ends in Heath Park Lane.
Fenella has been supporting residents' concerns about the mess that is being left behind by smokers at the entrance to Government Buildings at the bottom of St Agnes Road. The Council has made many attempts to address the problem by visiting the site and speaking with the building supervisor; providing 'stubbies' (portable ashtrays) to staff; and warning them about smoking related litter issues. But smokers from the Government Building site continue to ignore their responsibility to clear up after themselves.
Fenella said ' I visited the lane again on Sunday and swept up over 200 cigarette ends myself. It was appalling. I feel so sorry for the residents in the area who have to put up with the mess, and for the nursery school in St Agnes Road which abuts the lane. It is a terrible smell for the children to have to endure when they are playing outside'.
Fenella added ' It is all very well making the Government Building site a non- smoking zone, but this is at the expense of local residents and council tax payers who have to pay for the mess to be cleaned up by the Council'.
The Focus Team will be continuing to campaign for a permanent solution to the problem.
