Residents protest at a previous application for the Mynachdy coal yard site back in 2006.
Residents in Mynachdy Estate are advised that there will be a public meeting this Thursday (13th may) at 7.30pm in the Mynachdy Institute to discuss the planning application to build 345 student flats on the old coal yard behind Mynachdy Road.
A planning application (#10/669/W) was recently lodged with Cardiff Council, and local Liberal Democrat councillors have organised the meeting to allow local residents to have their say about the proposals.
Cllr. Ed Bridges said: "We are extremely concerned about these proposals. The plans would see 23 blocks of flats built on the site, each block being three storeys in height. In total, there would be 345 flats, with only 27 car parking spaces provided! The danger is that Mynachdy Road will be turned into a huge car park, with local residents having the added indignity of these three-storey buildings towering over their back gardens."
Residents are encouraged to attend Thursday's meeting where they can find out how to oppose the plans and can add their name to the petition against the scheme. Anyone wanting to sign the online petition against the scheme can do so by visiting http://campaigns.libdems.org.uk/MynachdyPlanning
Residents are also being encouraged to submit detailed comments on the plans by writing to: The Chief Regulatory Services Officer, City Hall, Cardiff, CF10 3ND, or by e-mailing developmentcontrol@cardiff.gov.uk - residents should send a copy of any comments to Cllr. Ed Bridges so he can reinforce their comments when he makes his formal submission.
