A planning application to develop the upper floors of the North Star pub (formerly the Maindy) has been approved on appeal by the Welsh Assembly, despite local objections.
A controversial planning application at a north Cardiff pub has been approved, drawing criticism from local Lib Dem councillors.
A planning application had been submitted earlier this year to extend and convert the upper floors of the North Star pub (formerly the Maindy) into seven flats, with no parking provision.
Local councillor, Ed Bridges, said: "Planning permission was refused by Cardiff Council's Planning Committee following concerns which I raised on behalf of local residents. The lack of adequate parking at the site and the loss of privacy for adjacent properties was a particular concern."
However, an appeal was lodged with the Welsh Assembly, and that appeal has now been granted, meaning permission for the conversion has been approved.
Lib Dem candidate for Cardiff North, John Dixon, said: "It is extremely disappointing that the Welsh Assembly has disregarded the concerns raised by residents over the lack of parking at the site and the loss of privacy for neighbouring properties."
