The Gabalfa Liberal Democrat Focus Team have been working on behalf of residents in connection to recent planning applications for the Maindy pub on North Road.
An application to extend and convert the upper floors of the pub into seven flats was turned down earlier this summer by Cardiff Council's Planning Committee. This followed representations from Cllr. Ed Bridges on behalf of local residents who were concerned over the lack of amenity and parking for the flats, and the potential for them to overlook nearby properties.
The developer is now appealing this decision with the Welsh Assembly. A final decision is expected later in the year.
In the meantime, a smaller application to reconfigure the lower floor and extend the upper floor whilst keeping it as one flat has now been accepted. No objections were received to this application, and permission was granted earlier this month.
Cllr. Ed Bridges said: "Clearly something is going to have to happen with the pub. Most residents accept that, but they want the developer to engage with the local community over what would be appropriate for the site."
Local activist, John Dixon, added: "The local Lib Dems will continue to do all they can to ensure that residents' views are properly represented."
