The Welsh Assembly has granted an appeal which will see the redevelopment of the Northlands hostel on North Road - a move which has disappointed many local residents.
Residents in Gabalfa have expressed their disappointment after a planning appeal was granted which will see the controversial redevelopment of a Salvation Army hostel.
The Salvation Army had applied to redevelop their hostel at Northlands on North Road, Gabalfa, and to build 27 new social housing units at one end of the site. An initial application was rejected by Cardiff Council earlier this year following representations by the local Lib Dem Focus Team, but that decision has now been overturned by the Welsh Assembly after an appeal.
Cllr. Ed Bridges, Liberal Democrat councillor for Gabalfa ward, represented residents objecting to the plans. He told us: "This is a massive blow for local residents, and we are obviously disappointed that the Assembly has not seen fit to listen to the concerns we have over access to the site. We felt that it would be more appropriate to access the site entirely from the main road, as is the case currently. Instead, access to part of the site will be via residential side streets like Pen-y-Bryn Road."
Work is expected to start on the site next year.
