Parkfield House Tesco - latest

Tesco have been granted permission to sell alcohol at their proposed store at Parkfield Place on North Road.
The application to open a new Tesco store on North Road took a step forward today after Cardiff Council's Licensing Committee granted an application for the shop - but only after the local Liberal Democrat team secured a key condition for the license.
Tesco had already been given planning permission to open the store at Parkfield House on North Road, and were seeking permission to sell alcohol from 6am until 11pm.
However, following objections from the Police and local residents, this was restricted to 8am-11pm.
Local Liberal Democrat councillor, Ed Bridges, attended the meeting this morning - an opportunity not taken by our Labour MP. At the meeting, Ed asked Tesco whether their CCTV system would cover the car park at the rear of the store, where there have been incidences of anti-social behaviour in recent years. As a result, a condition was added to make this part of the license.
Ed said: "Because of problems in the rear car park, I thought it would be helpful to improve security at the site. I am pleased to see that this concession has been made."
Local activist, John Dixon, added: "There were very few legal grounds on which the application could be rejected outright, but it is gratifying that the Committee have taken steps to mitigate the effect on the local community."
The new store is expected to open early in 2009 and, as always, the Lib Dem Team will do all they can to pick up any concerns residents have.
