Safer routes to school

Making streets safer for pupils: Cllr. Michelle Michaelis and Gwilym Owen are working for safer routes to local schools.

Lib Dem campaigners from Heath and Birchgrove have been working to improve safety arrangements near our local schools.

Some minor adjustments were recently agreed for the junctions of Maes y Coed Road at St Ina Road. Local residents were consulted and agreed that these would improve safety for pupils at Ton-yr-Ywen Primary School.

Cllr. Michelle Michaelis said: "This revised scheme is great news. We have long been calling for this road to be made safer. The new plans include a 20mph speed limit around Ton-yr-Ywen Primary, and new junction build-outs to improve pedestrian visibility."

The council is also introducing a new crossing on Pantbach Road to make the busy road easier to cross for Whitchurch High pupils.

Lib Dem activist, Gwilym Owen, said: "This has been needed for a long time, but Labour never did anything about it. I am pleased that the Lib Dem council are taking pupil's safety seriously."
