Time for ACTION! Lib Dems demand solution to Allensbank House Parking chaos

February 28, 2008 12:00 AM
Cllr. Ed Bridges by Allensbank House

Time for action: Cllr. Ed Bridges wants your support to address parking problems around Allensbank Road and Clodien Avenue.

Liberal Democrats in Gabalfa and Heath have come out fighting over ongoing parking problems caused by Allensbank House on Clodien Avenue.

After years of ongoing wrangles, councillors have demanded that action be taken. When planning permission was granted for the site, it was conditional on tenants not parking within 3km of the building - a rule which the Lib Dems at the time said was unenforceable and would lead to problems.

Gabalfa councillor, Cathy Pearcy, said: "We want action, not words, on this important issue. The people responsible have ignored the problem for too long, and we hope our petition will change that."

Heath's Lib Dem councillors (Jim James, Michelle Michealis & Gerald Harris) are backing the campaign to address local parking congestion.

Cllr. Michelle Michaelis, who represents Heath ward, added: "It is high time that this important issue was addressed. The Lib Dems have started a petition calling on the council, the Welsh Assembly and Unite to take action. All three bodies have a role to play in resolving this chaos."

Cllr. Ed Bridges told us: "There are lots of parking problems in the area. The high number of multiple-occupancy houses and the issue of UHW staff parking in residential streets all create challenges. But this is one issue which we think can be addressed very easily if only there is the will to do it. We'll keep campaigning on behalf of residents."
