Cllr. Ann Rowland-James and Jacqui Hooper are dismayed that Labour's Post Office closure plans will include our branch at Evansfield Road.
Residents in Llandaff North ward have been left reeling from the news that the Post Office on Evansfield Road is to be closed.
The Royal Mail had consulted last year on plans to close the branch, which prompted local Liberal Democrats to start a petition against the closure. Local councillor, Ann Rowland-James, collected over 300 signatures against the proposals and residents were united in calling on the Labour Government to halt the closure programme.
However, the protests fell on deaf ears, as the Government and the Royal Mail chose to ignore the views of residents.
Cllr. Ann Rowland-James said: "This is dreadful news for our area. Our Post Office is at the heart of our community, and its closure will hit local people very hard indeed. It is a black day for the residents of Llandaff North."
Local resident, Jacqui Hooper, added: "Labour have ridden roughshod over our community with their Post Office closure plan. The Lib Dems understand the importance of Post Offices and want to invest in them - but this Government are only concerned with penny-pinching, at the expense of local people."
The Lib Dems nationally have campaigned for a better deal for our Post Offices and have called for a £2 billion investment to breathe new life into the network. For more information on what the Lib Dems would do to save our post offices, visit http://www.libdems.org.uk/commerce/issues/
