Lib Dems to invest in Maindy 5-a-side facilities

A great result! Cllr. Cathy Pearcy and Cllr. Ed Bridges are pleased that Cardiff's Lib Dem council are investing in local sports facilities.
Welsh Liberal Democrats in Gabalfa ward have welcomed news that Cardiff Council is planning to spend more money on leisure facilities at Maindy.
Local Assembly candidate, Ed Bridges, has found out that the Lib Dem council is hoping to renovate the 5-a-side pitch at the facility to complement the £1.4 million of recent investment in the BMX track and the velodrome.
Ed told www.cardiffnorthlibdems.org.uk: "This is really great news, and shows that Cardiff's Lib Dem council is keen to improve sports facilities in our area to give a better deal for local people. Hopefully this can be a really first-class facility."
Other spending plans proposed by Cardiff's Lib Dems for the next financial year include:
- An additional £10.3 million to meet increased demand for social services.
- Money to DOUBLE the number of dedicated community support officers to address anti-social behaviour.
- £150,000 for an additional SIX community sweepers to tackle Cardiff's litter.
Cllr. Cathy Pearcy said: "These proposals are great news for Cardiff. But the Lib Dems aren't just about investing in our city - we're also pledging to save money by doing things like cutting expenditure on consultants by £350,000 and reducing money spent on councillors by £112,000. We believe that provides excellent value for money to the people of Cardiff, and improves local facilities like the 5-a-side pitch at the same time."
The current set of budget proposals would keep council tax rises in Cardiff under the Liberal Democrats at an average of just 2.8%. When Russell Goodway' Labour Party was running the city, the average was over 11%!
